Velma Ree (Burris) Edwards, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on December 12, 1930 in Magnolia, Arkansas to the late S.P. and Napoleon (Paschal) Burris. Velma grew up in a rural farming community in Arkansas, and at a early age professed a hope in Christ, and was baptized. In 1949, she united in marriage to Cleo Edwards Jr. for over 35 years. They had five children from this union. She moved to Anderson in 1974 and became an active member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. Velma was a nurse's aide at St. John's Hospital for several years, and then worked in production at Guide Lamp Division of General Motors until her retirement in 1997. She loved fishing, watching tennis and golf, going to casinos, cooking and getting together with family and friends.

Velma leaves to cherish her memory five children. Two daughters, Teressa (Anthony) Walker of Anderson, Karen (John) Woodall Jr. of Indianapolis; Three sons, Marcelle Edwards of Anderson, Larry (Dawn) Edwards of Gulfport, MS, and Donald Edwards of Indianapolis; A brother, Zollie Burris of Indianapolis; Five sisters, Aleatha Lawshea of Columbia, TN, Doris Newburn, Glenda Burris, Bobbie (Charles) Walker of Anderson, Ola (Frank) Taylor of Bloomfield Hills, MI; Grandchildren, John III, Jordan, and Janelle Woodall of Indianapolis, Marcelle Jr. and Marlon Edwards of Ohio; Six great-grandchildren; Special cousin, Curlee (Vera) Burris of Pine Bluff, AR, and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
