TABLE ROCK ARGUS, Friday, Dec. 17, 1915. page 8.

Mrs. Serena A. Penrod, who has been in failing health for many months died Sunday last at the home of her grandson Leslie Finn, at Rushville, Nebr., aged about 80 years. Mrs. Penrod came to this locality in 1855 about sixty years ago. Her first husband died many since. She was the mother of five children, and is survived by but one, Mrs. Anna Wert, wife of Michael Wert, living in the Bunker Hill vicinity, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. C. Atwood of Tecumseh and interment was in the Table Rock cemetery.

Serena was married first to James Dobson, according to her obituary they were the parents of five children.
Serena was listed as being paralyzed in the 1880 Nebraska census.
She was married to Jacob Penrod in 1888.

OBITUARY- Serena A. Early was born in Mo. Febr. 17, 1840 and died at the home of her grandson, Leslie Finn of Rushville, Nebr. December 13, 1915 aged 75 years, 9 months and 26 days. She lived with her parents in Mo. until she grew to young womanhood. May 19, 1856 she was united in marriage to James Dobson, the same year coming to Table Rock, where she has since resided. To this union were born eight children, all of which have preceded her to the betterland, excepting one daughter, Mrs. Ann Wert, who resides on a farm north of Table Rock. Her husband died January 9, 1887. In August 1889 she was united in a second marriage to Jacob Penrod, who passed away a few years later. Sister Penrod obeyed the gospel in the pioneer days under the preaching of D. R. Dungan. There being no Christian church organization at that time, she lived faithful to her mastor until a Christian church was organized in Table Rock, where she put in her membership October 3, 1897.

TABLE ROCK, Neb., Dec. 16- (Special)- Mrs. Serena Penrod, one of the early settlers of this vicinity and who lived here many years, died Monday at the residence of her grandson, Leslie Finn, near Rushville, Neb., aged 80 years. She had been twice married and came with her first husband, James Dobson, to this county and settled north of town in 1855. The interment was in Table Rock cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Michael Wert, living six miles north of Table Rock, and several grandchildren.
