John A. (Shiner) Smith, 61 of 3 La Salle Ave., Manor Gardens, New Castle, died last night at home. The medical examiner attributed his death to natural causes.

Mr. Smith was born in Wilmington and had lived here all of his life. He had been employed by the Bradley Manufacturing Co., Inc., 1412 Mitchell Ave., Greater Wilmington Airport, at the time of his death. Formerly, he had worked for the Pullman Co. for about 20 years.

He was an Air Corps veteran of World War I. He had played third base for the old Parkside Baseball Team for about 10 years.

Mr. Smith is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rose Zabenko Smith; a son, Sgt. Joseph Zabenko of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Octavio Oltramonto of Elsmere; two brothers, James and Francis of Wilmington; two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Smith and Mrs. Rebecca Dill, also of Wilmington; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday morning at 10 at the Dahling Funeral Home, 1201 New Road, Elsmere, where friends may call tomorrow night. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
