Emebet was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on August 25, 1968. When the military regime ousted the monarchy and established communist rule in Ethiopia in the mid-1970s, Emebet, her parents and two sisters escaped out of Ethiopia and eventually immigrated to the United States in 1976. Emebet was an exceptional student and excelled in school.

Following high school, Emebet went on to earn three degrees: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in San Antonio; Master's in Business Administration from University of Houston; and a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from University of San Diego School of Law in 2006 and has been an active member of the California Bar and was admitted in December 2007.

Her talent, insight, and intelligence made Emebet a highly sought after professional in industries
where she worked. As a result, the impact Emebet made was felt by her employers and colleagues at Exxon, EDS, Concour Technologies, Onyx Software and Medimpact where she received The General Counsel Award for 2013.

Her interests included family, gardening, music, the arts, sailing and traveling. Her love of music started at the early age when she played the flute since grade school. Her travels included Israel, Hawaii and Alaska where she visited with her mother Mulu Selassie, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Ireland and beyond also numerous sites in the United States. She was also an avid sailor where she received her certification of ASA101 and ASA103. He love for the arts shows in paintings where she has produced marvelous oil paintings. Her love of gardening was on full display in her new home in La Jolla, CA where she turned a sandy baren cliff side into a tropical oasis with the help from her loving partner Joseph Slopis. She will be always remembered as a loving daughter, sister, partner and friend whose greatest passion was helping others.
