EUGENE S. BELL, MD

APRIL 15, 1923 ~ FEBRUARY 14, 2018


Funeral Services for Eugene S. Bell, MD, 94, of Tishomingo, Oklahoma will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p. m. in the Herb Clark Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth McCarthick officiating.


Interment will follow in the Tishomingo Cemetery with Military Honors provided by The Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard.


Dr. Bell passed away on February 14, 2018 at his son's home in Edmond, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 pm until 7:30 pm at the funeral home.


Eugene Steven Bell, Jr. was born April 15, 1923 in Oklahoma City to Eugene Steven Bell and Grace (Poore) Bell. He was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from high school there in 1941.


He joined the Army Air Corps (later to be called the Air Force). He was shot down over Germany and was a Prisoner of War (POW) for thirteen months.


After the war he married Kathleen Kitchen on June 5, 1946 in Oklahoma City and then attended college and onto medical school at the University of Oklahoma.


Dr. Bell and his family moved to Tishomingo in 1953 and he has lived here for the past 65 years. He delivered over a thousand babies and cared for his community as a physician, until his retirement.


Dr. Bell was honored to be a Past President of the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians, and served for many years on the admission board for the OU Medical School.


After retirement, Dr. Bell continued supporting his beloved community; attending high school football games and Murray State College basketball games, participating in countless veterans' activities and always, being there for his family.


He also married Doris Upton on October 18, 1994 in Arkansas.


He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Kathleen Bell in 1991, and Doris Bell in 2012; his son, Steven; and his daughter, Jeannie Bell Brewer.


Dr. Bell is survived by his son, Patrick Bell, MD of Edmond; his grandson, Wade Bell of Davis, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Laura Bell and Briana Bell, both of Edmond; great-grandson, Ethan Tanksley of Edmond; Doris' family also survives, Paul Gilbert and Gayla Cellum; grandchildren, Justin, Brittney and Daria and great-grandchildren, Carter and Jordan.


Casket Bearers for the service will be: Wade Bell, Paul Gilbert, Justin Cellum, Randy Tanner, Gordon Downey and Mike LaFevers.
