Harry Gustav Peterson, 90, formerly of Silvis and East Moline, IL, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Galesburg, IL.

The family will be holding private funeral services at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018, and burial will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to AMVETS (American Veterans).

Harry was born on November 24, 1927, in Moline, IL, the son of Gustav and Anna Peterson. He was the senior class president of Moline High School, president of the Swedish Club, and served on the Athletic Board and high school Student Congress. In March 1946, Harry enlisted in the United States Navy and was responsible for classified radio communications at the naval operating base in Guam, Mariana Islands. He received an honorable discharge in January 1948 with the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Harry attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He graduated in June 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and marketing.

Harry married Betty Lou Brunson on July 11, 1953, in Davenport, IA, and together they raised their family in Geneseo, IL. He worked as a sales representative for American Olean Tile Company, G. J. Timmerman Company, and Armstrong Cork Company from 1952 to 1981. Harry retired in 1984 and enthusiastically worked beyond the age of 80 at Floorcrafters, Inc. in Moline, IL.

Harry enjoyed grilling, gourmet club, hunting, fishing, traveling, boating, golf, and family activities. He was a loving husband and proud father who was always warm, encouraging, and ready for a new adventure. Some of his favorite pastimes were walking the beaches and watching the sunsets in Costa Rica with Betty Lou.
