Josiah was the son of Thomas Hollister(1707-1784) and Abigale Talcott(1717-1812). He and his first wife Mary House(1760-1786)were married 13 Aug 1780, and had two children: Dency(1781-1860), and Josiah(1783-1836). On Apr 10, 1787, he married Asenath Sweetland(1763-1844). They had eleven children: Pierpont(1788-1835), twins: Orrin(1790-1871)and Grove(1790-1875); Horace(1791-1867), Twins: Eleazur(1794-1867)and Hannah Hollister Minor(1794-1883); Aaron(1796-1798), Mary Hollister Pitkin(1798-1897), Asenath Hollister Spencer(1801-1883), Harriet(1803-1900) unmarried, Aaron (1805-1822).
