In Memory of Dorothea

Dorothea Nicholson Wright was born in Gainesville, Texas on August 11, 1940.

She was the eldest of three children from Reverend David XL Nicholson, Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Green Nicholson.

Dorothea was raised in a strong Christian family. Her father was the pastor of Mount Olive First Baptist Church, Gainesville, Texas until his retirement. She professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. During her earlier life she served in the church as a pianist.

Dorothea graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Gainesville, Texas. She was the first of her siblings to attend college. She attended Dallas Vocational School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas and graduated as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1963. While attending nursing school she met and later married Harry Wilford Wright on June 19, 1964. Their union thrived for over 40 years.

She worked for Travis State School for over 18 years and it was there that she continued her calling nursing, providing services to MHMR Clients. Dorothea retired from Travis State School and became an entrepreneur. She started her own business, D. Wright’s Enterprise.

D. Wright’s Enterprise provided residential supportive services for MHMR clients through Home Community Based Services (HCS). She had a vision of empowering the clients to become self-governing and to live independently. She was a strong, courageous and successful business owner.

Dorothea, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend whose warm smile, meekness, gentle kindness, loving spirit will be dearly missed and always remembered.
