A Shaker journal entry upon Archibald's death read "Thus closes the days of another good man which, no doubt, causes great rejoicing in Heaven, but tribulation on Earth for his help and assistance was still much needed in the Office."

According to The Watervliet Shaker Cemetery by Elizabeth D. Shaver and published by the Shaker Heritage Society in 1992,Archibald Meacham was a son of Father Joseph Meacham and had come into the New Lebanon community as early as 1801, In 1807 he went as a missionary to Union Village, Ohio and was appointed head of the ministry at White Water, Ohio in 1827. Finally in 1842 he was "released" from this responsibility and returned to New Lebanon and them on to Watervliet, where he died in 1845 at the age of 66.

Journal entries:
One of ""first born" Believers who had seen Mother Ann personally, he was aged 5-7-16 when she died In 1784. (VB-327 CF Mtg Jour)

Described as "wise, far-sighted; what he undertakes generally prospers, and he would half starve rather than be in debt to the world."

1791 Caame from New Lebanon to Wvlt with Amos Hammond, David Osborn and Morrell Baker Jr.

13 May 1801 Signed covenant at Lebanon CF.

13 July 1807 Sent by Mother Lucy as missionary to Union Village along with Susanna Cole, Ruth (now called Rachel) Johnson and Lucy Bacon. (VB-279, reel 44)

1810-1815 Appointed as head of ministry at Busro, Ind.

1827 Appointed as head of ministry at Whitewater.

11 Aug 1842 Released and ordered to return to Lebanon. (Above all from Western Reserve Memb.; doesn't explain how he got back to Watervliet.)

23 Apr 1845 Brother Archibald is very sick and appears to be near his end.

10 May 1845 Brother Archibald died. "His disease was called the lung fever, but a few of his last days he was visited by sudden chills, like fever and ague. Thus closes the days of another good man which, no doubt, causes great rejoicing in heaven, but tribulation upon earth, for his help and assistance was still much needed in the Office where he resided as an assistant to the Trustees." 10 May 1845 Archibald Meachem died (PAB); "Freegift came and invited elders and deacons to funeral." (VB-324 WF)

11 May 1845 His funeral. WF and SF elders and deacons attended with the CF at the Meeting House and followed corpse to the grave. "Both the brethren and sisters went to the grave which has not happened for a long time, the weather usually not permitting it." (DAB)
