James "Jim" Lamar Griggs, age 68, of Rockmart, Georgia passed away, Wednesday, February 14th, 2018 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, February 18th at Acworth United Methodist Church, 4340 Collins Cir, Acworth, GA 30101, Reverend James Gwin will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemertery in Rockmart, GA. The public viewing will be immediately before the service. Memorials and gift may be made to the American Cancer Society or Acworth United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers. Jim was born May 1st, 1949 to Inez and James Griggs in Cedartown, GA but he was raised in Rockmart and left right after graduating from Rockmart High School (Class of 1967) to serve his country in the U.S. Army. After he was honorable discharged for medical reasons, he went on to college going to Lee College and Middle Tennessee State before eventually getting a degree. After college he went on to have a successful career in car sales, he quickly went from salesman to various managers. Selling cars allowed him to pursue childhood dreams like racing cars, playing softball, and umpiring. On October 4 1982, he married Lois Jean Wensel. The Army gave him his early training in electrical engineering and he grew up doing construction which he used to flip many homes in the Rockmart. It was during this time he spent many evenings tinkering with a device to more efficiently heat water which he used to building a successful business which he eventually sold. During this time, he and his wife traveled to various places around the world for conferences and testing his device. Having moved around during this time, he finally settled in Acworth, GA. He quickly grew tired of retirement and decide to go back to selling cars while starting another engineering company. He enjoyed boating having owned multiple boats and golf (owning multiple sets of clubs for reasons he could only explain) and enjoying his family and church. He enjoyed life and helping others. He was loved and respected, kind-hearted and loyal, trusted and thoughtful. He would do anything for family, friends and his church. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lois, and his two children, Charles Griggs and Chrissie MacDonald (Mark); three grandchildren Dakota, Chris, and Abby; his parents James and Inez Griggs of Rockmart, Georgia; his brother Phil and his sister-in-law Debbie along with his nephew Chris.
