Lee was born September 23, 1917 on the family farm near Hartley, Iowa. He was a graduate of Hartley High School and attended Kutztown State Teachers College in Kutztown, PA from 1936-38.

He married Verlene C. Blliss April 19, 1941. She died Dec. 8, 1983.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II as a sergeant in France from 1942-45, and was honorably discharged.

He was employed by Gambles-Skogmo warehouse, Hammond & Stephens Company as a print setter and the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier and clerk in Fremont.

He retired in 1984, and married Mildred "Millee" Barber August 24, 1984 in South Dakota.

They traveled in their RV several years before settling at Fun n' Sun RV park in San Benito, TX. They moved this past year to Camelot Retirement Village in Harlingen.

He was a past member of the First Congregational Church UCC, a life member of the American Legion Post 20, the Forty and Eight and a former adjutant for the American Legion Post 20 where he instigated the Avenue of Flags in Fremont.

Lee J. Linder, 83, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Fremont, Nebraska, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred; two daughters, Carole Linder and Nancy (Mrs. Wayne) Magnuson, both of Fremont, NE; a son, Jim Linder of Omaha, NE; a stepson, Raymond Richards of Woodbridge, VA; a stepdaughter, Lorna BlackBonnet of Snyder, NE; two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Buck-Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harligen.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
