She was such a sweet person, always so giving and caring. She always had to be doing something and was the hardest working person we have ever known. She was a wonderful cook and with her children always bringing friends in, she never turned anyone away from her table. She devoted her life to taking care of her family. She raised her three children to always love each other unconditionally and to always look out for one another. She was lively and energetic until the illness of Alzheimer’s took over. She carried herself with poise and dignity to the end. She remained at home throughout this ten year illness and was cared for by her family, per her wishes.
She was a longtime member of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church. She was an awesome prayer warrior and always shared her testimony with anyone willing to listen.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her very special mother-in-law, Effie Wade, whom she considered a second mother and best friend in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her only son, Larry A. Wade, Jr. in 2002. Preceding her in death also are her brothers, Austin Baber, Robert Baber, Charles Baber, Sam Baber, and Henry Baber; and sister, Ann Griffin.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Larry A. Wade, Sr. of Waynesboro; two daughters, Tina Fisher and Sherri Nauman and husband Jim, all of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruby (Clyde) Raines of Winchester, VA and Lucy Baber of Afton, VA; brother, Kenneth “John Henry” (Connie) Baber of PawPaw, WV; a dozen sisters and brothers-in-law; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday evening at McDow Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 20th in Augusta Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Paul LaPrevotte. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
