George L. Dobson Jr., 88, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at his residence. Born in Chesterfield, he was the son of the late George L. Dobson Sr. and Pauline D. Major, and was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Dobson. Mr. Dobson was a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, a retired Driver for Spencer Brothers Oil, and a veteran of the United States Army. He belonged to the Harrison Mill Pond Fishing Club. Mr. Dobson served the Colonial Heights Fire Department from 1957 to 1978. During his years with the fire department, he obtained the rank of 1st Assistant Fire Chief, and was the 1st person to be awarded a life time membership award. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne H. Dobson; a son, Jim Dobson and wife, Marye A. Dobson; a daughter, Janet Dobson Presnell and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Christopher Presnell and wife, Kylie, Ashley P. Fisher and husband, Jason, Austin Dobson, Aaron Dobson, and Andre Carr and wife, Elizabeth Carr; two great-grandchildren, Kinsley Carr and Greyson Waverly Fisher; a sister, Nancy Dobson Edwards and husband, Bob; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special appreciation to Crater Community Hospice and George's caregivers, Carolyn Johnston, Carrie Johnson, and Michelle Taylor for their care and compassion provided. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 3101 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Andy Brockelman officiating. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
