Anna was the first born child of William and Mary deDufour. Born in New York City, she was nearly 8 months old when she died of inanition (today they would call it "failure to thrive") that was further complicated by asthma.

This was a fairly common cause of childhood death among impoverished immigrants who simply did not have adequate food and living conditions to sustain healthy growth and development.
