Pioneer Resident Dies at 84
Beatrice Maude Leckie, 84, widow of a pioneer Vancouver shoe merchant, will be buried Wednesday.
Mrs. Leckie, who was born in Parry Sound, Ont., and lived in Vancouver since 1896, died Saturday.
Her husband, shoe merchant W.H. Leckie, predeceased her in 1930.
Her funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Anglican Church, Thirty-seventh and Larch.
An early member of the Women's Musical Club in Vancouver, Mrs. Leckie was president of the group from 1912 to 1915 and later became a life member.
She was president of the Vancouver YWCA for five years until 1922 and was also a member of the Georgian Club, to which she belonged until the time of her death.
During the First World War she was active in the work of the Independent Order of the Daughters of the Empire.
Mrs. Leckie is survived by three sons, C.P. (Dick), W. Keith and Walter A., all of Vancouver; one daughter, Mrs. W.H. Beacham of San Fernando, Cal.; and 10 grandchildren.
Two other sons, Harold S. and G. Duncan, predeceased her.
