Funeral Mass for Jolene Kay Edwards, 69, of Greene, will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, 15 Feb 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be at Retz Funeral Home from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m.
Jolene was born 2 Dec 1948 in Charles City, IA, the daughter of Jake and Eula (Kramer) Mehmen, and died on Saturday, 10 Feb 2018, at her home in Greene surrounded by her family. She attended public school graduating from Greene High School in 1967 and later attended Hamilton Business College. After college, Jolene took a job working for State Farm Insurance in Mason City in 1969.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Edwards on 27 Dec 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene. This marriage was blessed with two daughters.
Following her marriage she moved to St. Louis where they lived until her husband’s discharge from the Army. They then returned to make their home in Greene. Jolene primary focus was on being a homemaker and raising her children. She did not work outside of the home until her children were in high school.
Jolene began working in Greene for Stanton Live Stock as a secretary. She was later employed by Bob and Carol Cole with both their local businesses. Jolene then worked for Norman Graven Law Office and then Lawler and Swanson Law Office as a secretary and receptionist. She retired in June 2013. She was detailed oriented which made her very successful in her job field.
She enjoyed flowers, traveling, spending time with her neighbors and especially the time spent with her grandchildren. The family vacationed in Okoboji each summer which produced many cherished memories.
Jolene was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene where she was also a member of St. Catherine’s Circle. She was a compassionate and caring person. Jolene always carried herself with grace and dignity.
Living family members include her loving husband of 49 years, Dennis Edwards of Greene; her two daughters and their children: Kristin (Shahram) Malek of Maple Grove, MN, Noah Hagemeister, Isabelle Malek, Theda Malek, Reed Schneider, and Luke Schneider; Julie (Jamie) Lubbert of Canton, MO, Collin Lubbert and Taylor Lubbert; her father Jake Mehmen of Greene; one sister Diane (Mike) Grant of Mason City.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Eula Mehmen.
