Obituary for James Hinchey
James F. Hinchey of Falmouth, Ma and formerly of Shrewsbury died 06/11/2012 at The Heritage of Falmouth surrounded by his family. He fought heart failure with his “ typical positive attitude”.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert Hinchey, and his wife, Denise of Falmouth, their 4 children, Timothy Hinchey of N Attleboro, Jillian Hinchey of Somerville, Scott MacGillivary of Tiverton, R.I. and Michael MacGillivary of Worcester, Ma. and Stephen Hinchey and his 2 children Jennifer and James of Burlington, VT. Mr. Hinchey is also survived by a sister, Margaret McCusker of Waltham and several nieces and a nephew. He was blessed to have been married to Dorothy Hinchey, his wife of 51 years, who predeceased him in 1999.
James Hinchey was born to the late Leo J. and Margaret Mary (O'Connor) Hinchey in Waltham, where he was raised and graduated from St. Mary's High School. Studies were interrupted when he enlisted in the Army Air Corp during World War II, where upon graduating from officer training school as a pilot he was assigned to the Eighth Air Force in Europe, where he successfully flew the P47 Thunderbolt and P51 Mustang as a member of the 353rd Fighter Group based in Raydon, England. Upon his return he resumed his education, graduating from St. Louis University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He became a successful businessman, finishing his career as National Sales Manager for Nichols Division of Parker Hannifan Corporation.
Jim enjoyed his many summers with his family at Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, NH and also winters in Juno Beach, Fl. He was an avid fisherman, sports fan and cribbage player, and especially loved watching his Red Sox win 2 World Series, a feat he "never thought I'd witness after 1946".
A calling hour will be at the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St Shrewsbury, MA on June 15, 2012 from 10-11AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St Mary's Church, 640 Main St Shrewsbury Ma at 11:30AM. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
