Willard 'Bill' Arlen Anderson peacefully passed away on Friday, November 10 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Bill was born in Red Oak, Iowa on September 27, 1940, to Maynard Forrest and Virgie Marie Engdahl Anderson. Bill grew up in Lincoln and Blair Nebraska and graduated from Blair High School in 1958.
He married Linda Pennington in 1960.
Bill is survived by their two sons, Mark Arlen Anderson and his wife Diana (née Blankenship) of Gurnee, IL, Kent David Anderson and his wife Tammy (née O’Mara) of Hannibal, and his daughter Dana Lynn Blase and her husband Michael of Hannibal. Bill dearly loved and was incredibly proud of his grandchildren: Clare Elizabeth (Blase) Zanger and husband Jay, Jenna Elizabeth (Gould) Moore and her husband John Michael, John David Anderson and his wife Carisa LeiAnn, Tech. Sgt. Paul Alexander Anderson and his wife Jinky, Leslie Marie Blase and boyfriend Bronson Shaver, Abby Renee Anderson, Phillip Gray Anderson, Blake Connor Wilkinson, and Melanie Rose Blase.
His great-grandchildren Luka, Maddox, Andie, Lillian, Macklin and Livie were deeply cherished and delighted him immensely. Bill is also survived by his siblings John, Deanna, Ed, Joe, and Lynn and their families.
His parents and siblings Lois, Bob, Mary, Lorraine and Carolee preceded him in death.
Bill was incredibly hard working and always strove to create. As a young father living in Golden, Colorado, he worked for Coors Porcelain Company and then with Terrametrics, Inc., a geotechnical engineering company. His work with Terrametrics, Inc. led to a position with Massman Construction of Kansas City, the firm selected to construct the Clarence Cannon Dam. Bill and his family moved to Hannibal in 1974. After completion of the dam, Bill worked for Standard Printing Company and later started his own display manufacturing company, Promotional Images, in 1983.
Bill was a highly skilled craftsman and enjoyed building custom homes and could fabricate most anything. He was an avid fisherman and fishing trips to Canada with family were highpoints. He loved to garden and was a Missouri Master Gardener. Bill served as the first congregational president as well as the youth group director of the newly formed Faith Lutheran Church in Golden, Colorado. He was also an active member of the Golden Jaycees. In Hannibal, he sang with the Mark Twain Men's Choral for many years, volunteered for the Northeast Missouri Humane Society and was a former member of the Hannibal Lions Club.
Bill’s compassion and generosity however, were his finest attributes. Stray animals became beloved pets. Bill thought the best of every person he met and always offered assistance.
