Tony Benny Simmons, 63, died peacefully surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born on November 24, 1954 in Scotland County, NC to Ida Mae Johnson Simmons and the late Lacey Donnie Simmons. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Surviving is his mother, Ida Mae Simmons of the home; children, Tony Edward Simmons, and Kathy Simmons both of Lexington; brother, Jimmy Mace Simmons of Thomasville; four sisters, Linda Simmons Dennis of Burgaw, Blinda Fae Simmons Flannery of Thomasville, Glinda Mae Simmons of Thomasville, and Cherry Simmons Doss of London, Ky; one half sister, Virginia Simmons Hardee of Thomasville; and one granddaughter. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
