Dale Fae "Marty" Eichelberger, 85, of Fisher died at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in East Bend Memorial Gardens, rural Fisher. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at East Bend Mennonite Church, 702 County Road 3300 N, Fisher, with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.
Visitation with family will be one hour prior to and immediately following the service.
Mr. Eichelberger was born Feb. 6, 1933, in East Bend Township, a son of George and Edna (Peters) Eichelberger. He attended Fisher High School before serving four years in the U.S. Navy. He married Peggy Resler Aug. 20, 1954, in Fisher. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Cathie (Randy) Stalter of Minocqua, Wis., and Crystal (Michael) Bayler of Fisher; son-in-law, Michael Brownlee of Savoy; grandchildren, Arron (Thomas) Cravatt of Charlotte, N.C., Alex Stalter of Champaign, Tucker Bayler of Fisher, Travis Bayler of Scottsdale, Ariz., Madison (Kindi) Bayler of Fisher, Jordan (Kieran) Kellam of Evergreen Park, Taylor (Tim) Hurt of Chicago and Garett (Ryan) Plantz of Denver; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Evelyn Zehr, Virginia Welborn and Pat Harper, all of Fisher; three brothers, Edward of Rantoul, Shade of Fisher and Buck of Mahomet; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his a daughter, Connie Brownlee; granddaughter, Jessica Brownlee; and brothers, Paul, Earl and his twin brother, Hank.
Mr. Eichelberger spent his career working in the Housing Division at the University of Illinois. He played fast-pitch softball and baseball as a young man and fished with his family throughout his life.
He and his wife retired in 1988 and spent time entertaining family and friends at their lake home in Minocqua, Wis., and winter home in Glendale, Ariz. He also enjoyed his retirement years working part time at Ace Hardware in Woodruff, Wis., where he and his wife made many cherished friends, including their "adopted" son, Lowell Bostrom. Mr. Eichelberger was a member of East Bend Mennonite Church.
