Tammy passed away peacefully in her home Saturday morning January 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving husband and sons,
after a prolonged battle with cancer. Tammy was born in Fredonia, NY and graduated from Fredonia HighSchool. She moved south to Bradenton, Florida in 1980 and it became her adopted home. Tammy graduated from Manatee Community College with
an Associate of Arts Degree and University of South Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she taught at risk students at Branden River Middle School from 1990 - 1994 as part of the dropout prevention program. On February 19, 1994, Tammy married Andy O'Dell. Tammy left her teaching career shortly afterwards to become a full time mother for each of her four boys. In 2010, she became the Director of the Lunch Program at St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a role and school that she loved.Tammy also acted as the volunteer spokesperson for the local Sun Coast Blood Bank platelet program and was featured in a large printed advertisement on the side of the local blood bank bus. Tammy will be remembered for her dedication to her boys, her friendships, her hugs and for her love of a quote by Milton Berle - "Laughter is an instant vacation". Tammy is survived by her mother, Deborah Guayasamin (Best), her biological father, Jim Best, whom she recently connected with, her husband, Andy, her sons, Alex, Sam, Max and Harry. She is predeceased by her adoptive father, Guido Guayasamin. Also left behind are her adoptive step-brother, and sister, David Guayasamin and Robin Guayasamin Salerno, her newly acquired half brothers and sisters, Richard Best, Kimberly McEachren and Eugene Bonaoom, her aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church 4030 Manatee Ave West, Bradenton, FL, (941) 747-3709, at 3pm Saturday, February 10th, 2018. Donations can be made in Tammy's name at Sun Coast Blood Bank, online (https://scbb.org/get-involved/financial-gifts.html) or by check to 1760 Mound St, Sarasota, FL 34236.
