Obituary for Nell Watson
Nell Martin Watson, of Albany, GA, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, December 15, 2011 at Horizon Bay Assisted Living Center in Concord, North Carolina, side by side with her husband of 62 years, G. Stuart Watson, who died less than twelve hours earlier. Services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11:00am at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albany, GA, the Rev. William “Biff” Coker presiding. The family will receive visitors at the church at 9:30am preceding the service. Nell Watson was born on September 29, 1928 in Orange County, FL. She was the third child of Edward B. Martin and Edith McKenney Martin. Nell spent her childhood in Leesburg, Georgia and resided in Albany, Georgia for 62 years after graduating from college. She attended Wesleyan College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA degree in 1948. Nell was active in Albany as a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Albany, a member of the Albany Town Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames and a volunteer with Literacy Volunteers of America. She was once a member of the boards of the Albany Concert Association, United Way, Dougherty County Heart Association and the Albany Symphony Association. Nell married G. Stuart Watson on April 2, 1949. The couple had two children, G. Stuart Watson, Jr., an investigative reporter at WCNC-TV in Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth Watson Fort, a speech therapist in Cincinnati, OH, and seven grandchildren. She is predeceased by her brother, Dr. Ben Martin of Albany and her sister, Mrs. Kate Martin Green of Tucson, Arizona.
