BARBER, Mr. Stephan W.
Lawton, MI

Our beloved patriarch, husband, father, poppy, brother, and son, Stephan W. Barber, was called home unexpectedly to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 10th, 2018. He had been a lifelong cornerstone of the Paw Paw and Lawton communities and a member of Lawton Evangelical Mennonite Church for 32 years. Steve spent 30 years in the pipe valves and fittings industry before succeeding his brother, David Barber, as President and Owner of Barber Packaging Company where he saw it as his mission to impact the lives and communities of those he worked with for Christ. He lived a rich life loving and being loved by his family and friends. We celebrate his life as he loved Jesus Christ and is now resting in his everlasting arms. Steve was born October 8th, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of Stanley and Rose (Miks) Barber. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Barber; a sister, Elaine Taylor; as well as brother-in-laws, Jim Ray and Greg Straka. On April 8th, 1978, he was united in marriage to the love of his life whom he cherished dearly, Sue Ann (Anderson) Barber, who carries on his legacy and example for their children, Luke (Monica) Barber of Kalamazoo, Kelly (Todd) Barber-Munting of Paw Paw, and Samuel (Jamie) Barber of Lawton. Poppy was loved and adored by his seven grandchildren; Logan, Charlee, Chase, Ella, Wesley, Jack, and Ty. Steve was blessed to be part of a large family and is survived by brother and sister in-laws, Wayne Taylor and Marilyn Barber, eight siblings, four brothers, Bob (Sandy) Barber of Ft. Meyers, FL, Paul (Marilyn) Barber of Bloomingdale, Tim (Kim) Barber of Gobles, and Phil (Angie) Barber of Kalamazoo and four sisters, Dale (Daryl) Snyder of Paw Paw, Cindy Straka of Troy, MI, Sharon (Joe) George of Mattawan, and Rosanne (Steve) Adams of Gobles along with dozens of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, February 15th, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 16th, at the Lawton Evangelical Mennonite Church, 425 South Nursery Street, Lawton. Interment will be at the Almena Cemetery.
