Jack was born the only child of Leon Clifton (Jack) Calkins and Ima (Jean) Atkinson Calkins. Jack graduated from Childress High School in the Class of 1943. Jack served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and graduated from Baylor University in 1949 with a BS in Chemistry. Jack was a 50-year member of the American Chemical Society and a Charter Member of the Tomball Shrine Club. Jack was a member of the Baylor Heritage Club, the Tusler-Summit Masonic Lodge in Roseville, Minnesota, the Arabia Shrine Temple, the Houston Scottish Rite bodies, the Friends of the Clayton Library, the Clark County Alabama Historical Society, the Philadelphia Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and Chapelwood Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Bible Sunday School Class and served for 10 years as a Stephen Minister. Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Davis Calkins and by his two sons: Jack Lee Calkins and wife, Christine Banks Calkins, and Charles Bruce Calkins and wife, Laurel Brubaker Calkins, all of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Keri Lee Calkins, Kyle Clifton Calkins, William Davis Calkins, Christopher Scott Calkins, and Benjamin Matthew Calkins. Jack is also survived by his half-brothers, Noel Clifton Calkins of Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Dr. Ronald R. Calkins of Mineola, Texas, and brother-in-law, James M. Davis of Gainesville, Texas.
