Rebecca Crews Pickett of Decatur, GA passed away after a two year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey Pickett, children Jennifer Pickett Holt (Tom) of Griffin, GA and Brian Pickett (Kelly) of Tyrone, GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Caroline Holt Aiken (Thomas) of Macon, GA, Katherine Holt of Atlanta, George Holt, Abbey Pickett, John (Jack) Pickett, and Hunter Pickett. Becky was the daughter of George W. and Virginia McNeny Crews whose roots were in south-central Virginia. Her father was a railroad-man with the Southern Railroad, and he was serving in North Africa when Becky was born. Becky was nearly three years old when her father returned from the war seeing her for the first time. A railroad career moved the family through the South until high school years in Charlotte, NC. She was a leader and a scholar at East Mecklenburg High School, and she won entrance to Duke University. She and Jeff were chemistry lab partners in high school, and they had their first date soon after they both started college. Becky was an outstanding student, and she graduated with a degree in English with honors. Becky and Jeff were married September 12, 1964, and they began life together in Chapel Hill, NC as Jeff finished college. Duty in the US Marine Corps took Jeff and Becky to Pensacola, FL and Jacksonville, NC. The Atlanta area became Becky's home from 1969 to the present. Becky completed course work for her degree at Agnes Scott College earning straight A grades. She became a Master Gardener and was the President of the Georgia Master Gardeners Association in 2000.
