George B. Townsend, 92, of Daytona Beach Shores, died peacefully on February 5, 2018. He and his wife of 65 years, Betty, moved to the area in 1996 from Leesburg, VA. George proudly served his country in WWII. George was later appointed to the Aviation Cadet Program where he in, 1954 received his commission in the USMC. He later served in both Korea and Vietnam before retiring as a major in 1970. George continued to serve his county in the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 1988. Predeceased were his parents George and Florence Townsend and his brother, Joe Townsend. He is survived by his wife Betty, two sons, Mark (Teri), Russell (Carol) and daughter Kathryn Powell (Barry). Also survived by him are three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia Flagler, Port Orange, FL. Major Townsend will be interred, with full "Military Honors", at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
