Andrea Louise Thorp Miller, 93, passed peacefully on Jan. 14, 2018, in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Clinton, the daughter of Claude and Louise Carter Thorp.

She graduated from Wapella High School in 1943 and married Phillip Ray Miller of Wapella on March 23, 1946.

She is survived by her four children: John Merrill (Jane), Winston-Salem, N.C.; David, Kennesaw, Ga.; Sandra Hitch, Port Charlotte, Fla.; and Gail Mallin (David), Mancos, Colo.; along with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Ernest Thorp, Clinton; a sister, Sarah Jackson, Mount Pulaski; and a granddaughter, Natalya Joy Mallin, Durango, Colo.

She lived in her home in Wapella for almost 65 years before declining health forced her to relocate. She was a lifelong Methodist, having belonged to the Prairie Center, Wapella, and Clinton churches. She was active in the DeWitt County Homemakers Extension and the Clinton chapter of the Daughters of Union Veterans. She drove a school bus for the Wapella schools for many years and was an election judge for Wapella Township.

She loved flowers and her cats, especially Baby, Tommie, and Blackie.

A memorial service will be held at the Clinton Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. April 6. Donations may be made to the church or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
