David Allen Ladd, 81, of Green Valley, AZ, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 26, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, AZ.

He was born Sept. 4, 1936 in Tracy, MN to Jasper Raymond and Florence DeMarce Ladd, the third child of four. David grew up in Crystal Lake, IL attending St. Thomas grade school and Crystal Lake Central High School. He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1958. He met his wife Mary "Mimi" Grow while she was attending Alverno College In Milwaukee. They were married on Aug. 20, 1958 in Wadsworth, OH.

David enjoyed a lifelong career as a Land Developer and Homebuilder. He started his career in Crystal Lake as VP of Construction for Ladd Enterprises, a large residential home building company in McHenry County founded by his father. He earned his registered professional engineer license in 1962. After a merger with a company in Delaware to become a large publicly traded homebuilder, David continued his career as VP of the Midwest Division and eventually President of the Corporation. In 1975 he formed Brittany Builders and developed many residential communities in Crystal Lake and the surrounding areas.

David served on local community hospital and school boards, was Director of McHenry County Cancer Foundation, lecturer for the National Home Builder Association and co-founder of McHenry, IL Jr. Chamber of Commerce. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed coaching little league and having a great time with family and friends. David loved his children and grandchildren greatly and loved to offer "pearls of wisdom" and talk about the world and current events while cooking their favorites including venison burgers, blueberry pancakes, fried fish and wonderful soups. These were the best of times.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mimi; brother, Jeffrey (Kathy); his four sons, Michael (Kelly), Daniel (Judy), James (Rene) and Christopher (Christine). He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica), Mallory, Mackenzie, Morgan, Caitlin, Alexander, Kendall, Alexandra and Steven.

In 2007 David and Mimi retired to Green Valley, AZ forming many great relationships and wonderful memories. David was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Green Valley.

Mass of Christian burial will be held in May, 2018 at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, one of David's most cherished building projects in his career. Internment to follow at Windridge Memorial Park and Nature Sanctuary in Cary, IL.
