A Guilford County native, Mr. Shelton was born on April 7, 1940, the son of the late Elma Daniel Shelton and Isaac Jonah Shelton. He attended Midway United Methodist Church and was a retired truck driver with 40 years on the road split between Signal Delivery and Roadway Trucking.
In his spare time he enjoyed time spent with family, gardening, bird-watching, and his dogs.
On July 19, 1958 he married Lillie Mae 'Butch' Atkins.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years 'Butch' Shelton of the home; son Michael Lee Shelton (Kim) of Summerfield; daughter Angie Shelton Phillips (Mark) of Roxboro; 3 grandchildren Lauren Taylor, Dalton Taylor, and Sarah-Beth Taylor; and a special niece, Brenda McCandless.
He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Harris.
