Kathryn Jean Bearden, 85, of McComb, MS., passed away February 10, 2018, at the McComb Nursing and Rehab Center in McComb.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 12 noon until services at 2 PM at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb. Dr. Victor Walsh and Phillip Alford will officiate and burial will be in the Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.

Kathryn was born June 6, 1932, in McComb, MS, to the late, Herbert O. and Lovie Cain Bearden.

Kathryn Jean was a leader in Baptist Student Union work in Mississippi. She served from 1957 to 1971 at Gilfoy School of Nursing and from 1971 to 1996 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. She retired to McComb in 1996 after serving Mississippi Baptist students for 39 years.

Kathy, (as she was known by her many friends) was an only child. Following the death of her beloved parents, she became an adopted family member of Vic and Sherry Walsh. For over 30 years, she celebrated birthdays, holidays, graduations, weddings and other special days and innumerable Sunday services as a special family member.

She loved the Baptist church and although she was a long time member of First Baptist Church of McComb, she claimed “honorary membership” in every church where Dr. Walsh served over the past 27 years.

She graduated from McComb High School. Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by cousins, T.W. Bearden, Peggy Mire, Lucy Carolyn McGuffee and Doris Rogers. Also surviving are longtime friends and caregivers, Vic and Sherry Walsh, their children and grandchildren, along with co-workers and friends throughout the state of Mississippi. She treasured the friendship of many people too numerous to mention in the McComb and Pike Co. area as well.

Pallbearers will be Ben Walsh, Joseph Smith, Russ Walsh, Jacob Gill, Terry Barlow and Scott Ratcliff.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Parker, Larry Dorr and Billy Russell.

Special thanks to Camellia Estates, McComb Nursing and Rehab Center and St. Luke Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care and professional service during these past few years of her lengthy illness.
