M. Dean Andrews, 84, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital, with his family by his side. He battled ill health these last three years.

He was born August 3, 1933, in Effingham, the son of Murl and Lutie (Wehrle) Andrews. When Dean was three, the family moved to his beloved hometown of Greenville. He married Jean Kage on June 9, 1956, in Decatur, and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2016.

Dean is survived by four children, Kathy of Naperville, and Kim, Karen, and Jeff (Sandy), all of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his one sister, Norma Jean Andrews.

Dean graduated from Greenville High School where he enjoyed his years of playing on the basketball team. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 in Colorado Springs, CO, at Fort Carson, which inspired his love for Colorado and the mountains. Dean and Jean moved to Jacksonville in 1960, where Dean excelled as a retail store manager, working at the downtown John Green Store and P.N. Hirsch. In 1970, he opened and managed the Carp’s Discount Store on Morton Ave. In 1976, he purchased the Capps Factory complex with his partner, and founded AACO, Inc., a storage and distribution center warehouse for many local factories.

Dean had a strong work ethic throughout his life, starting as a young boy doing odd jobs at a grocery store and being a caddy at the local Greenville course. He even continued working at his office, just three weeks before his passing.

Dean enjoyed watching all sports, but especially the St. Louis Cardinals. In earlier years, he also enjoyed bowling and fishing. He has many fond memories of fishing trips to Canada with his buddies. Dean also took his family on many summer vacations, traveling in a station wagon across the USA. One station wagon was green with wood paneling, just like in the “Vacation” movie. He visited many of the major US national parks and sites. Dean was a long-time active member of the Elks Lodge, where he was known for always joking and laughing. Dean will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Private graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
