Jesse Maricle passed suddenly and quietly away at his home in Winslow Tuesday afternoon, death resulting after a brief attack of pneumonia. Mr. Maricle was the oldest; son of William and Margaret Maricle and was born in Vestal, New York, June 8, 1838, at his death was 78 years, 7 months and 1 day old. He moved with his parents when a boy to Nora, Ill., later going to Iowa. Returning to Illinois he settled in Christian Hollow, and married Premila O. Kennedy, Oct. 16, 1859. He was a successful farmer. He had the reputation of a hard worker, which he maintained until few days before his death. In 1895 he moved to Winslow where he took charge of the elevator, later retiring to a private life. He joined the M. E. church in his young days. He was a regular attendant at worship, but for some years has not been affiliated with any denomination. He leaves a widow and seven children. Mrs. Cora Kellum, Mrs. George Staver, Albert and John, of Winslow; William of Blairsburg, Iowa, David of Westbrook, Minn.; and Jesse of Toledo, Iowa; also three brothers and one sister in the west. The funeral was held in the U. B. church and the body was taken to Christian Hollow for burial, Rev. O. Neal officiating.
