Violet Marie England Carter
Feb 16-1903 –Jan 2, 1991

Blackfoot –Violet Marie England Carter, 87, lifelong Thomas area resident, died Wednesday morning, Jan 2, 1991, at her residence from complications due to aging.
Mrs. Carter was born Feb. 16, 1903, in Moreland, the daughter of William T and Eliza Geddes England. She attended schools in Moreland and graduated from Moreland High School, and then attended Ricks Academy in Rexburg. Her formal education was furthered in piano, violin, and elocution.
She also painted and sketched throughout most of her life. She put away her brushes as she turned 80; saying painting was getting hard on her eyes.
She married William Homer Carter Nov 28, 1923 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. As a member of the LDS Church she served in many positions, especially in Relief Society and Sunday school.
Her major contribution to the community was through her singing. She and her husband, Homer, sang duets at countless funerals, weddings and other entertainments. She loved the out-of doors and was an avid fisherman.
She is survived by two sons, Bishop Don C Carter and Spence W Carter, both of Pingree; five daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Vaudis) Dance of Blackfoot, Mrs. Elwood (Ione) Bates of Rigby, Mrs. Jerry (Carlee) Rasmussen of Missoula, Montana, and Mona Vee Carter and Mrs. Perry (Sonia) Merrill, both of Thomas; one sister, Mrs. David (Pricilla) Hatch of Blackfoot; 31 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Val H. Carter; two brothers, William "Bill" England and Walter England; two sisters, Mrs. Austin (Lurleen) Wheeler and Mrs. Daniel (Lois) Thomas.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00pm Saturday, Jan 5, 1991, at the Thomas LDS 4th Ward Chapel with Bishop James Turpin conducting. Family will meet friends this evening at the Hill-Sandberg Funeral Home from 7-9pm and again Saturday at the church from noon until 12:45pm

Burial will be in the Riverside Thomas Cemetery.
