Jairus F. Bankert, 95, formerly of Haines Road, York, died at 12:50 a.m. Monday at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. He was the husband of Mabel A. (Shettle) Bankert, who died June 27, 1983.

The service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Quickel's Lutheran Church, 60 Canal Road, Zion View. Burial will be in Quickel' s Cemetery. Viewing will be 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. The LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home Inc., 2290 School St., Shiloh, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bankert was born in Stoverstown. He was the son of the late John P. and Martha Jane (Klinedinst) Bankert.

He and his wife were former owners and operators of the then Bankert Grocery and Convenience Store, 835 Prospect St., York., for 13 years until 1949.

Later, he was maintenance foreman for The Bon-Ton Department stores for 21 years, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Quickel's Lutheran Church and served as a private with the U.S. Army during World War I.

Mr. Bankert is survived by a sister, Regina S. Lauchman of York; and a brother, Sterling M. Bankert of York; and nieces and nephews.

Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. W. Robert Kurz. Memorial contributions may be made to Quickel's Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 60 Canal Road, Zion View, York, 17402. 11-01-92
