A son of the late George Robert Matheny and Evelyn Miller Franklin, Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Portsmouth East High School. Jerry retired after 43 years of services with AEP where he worked in the storeroom. He rebuilt and painted cars for many years and as a young man enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR and racing his own cars.

Surviving Jerry are his two children, Stephen R. (Diane) Matheny of Wheelersburg and Nancy (Joe) Williams of Lucasville; two brothers, Gary (Susan) Fultz of South Webster and Phillip Fultz of Wheelersburg; a sister, Brenda Lace of Florida; five grandchildren, Nathan Napier, Mike and Robbie Matheny, Julie (Matt) Schiesser and Kenny Williams; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was also preceeded in death by his stepmother, Dolores Matheny; and a sister, Susie Kirkbride.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth with Brian Baer and Calvin Ray Evans officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Burial Park.
