Carl Wayne Buchanan, Sr., 65, of Upper Hanging Rock Road, Spruce Pine passed away Monday June 22, 2009 at his residence. A native of Mitchell County he was the son of the late Bela and Annie McClellan Buchanan and was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Buchanan who passed away in 1992, three brothers Clarence Buchanan, Phillip Buchanan and Lewis Buchanan and three sisters, Judy Gardner, Donna Milsap and Mary Alice Young. Survivors include three daughters, Pam Huffman and husband Greg of Spruce Pine, Tammy Patterson and husband Hugh of Jacksonville, FL and Lenita Byrd and husband Gene also of Spruce Pine, and two sons, Carl Wayne Buchanan, Jr. and fiancé Christy Pittman of Spruce Pine and Bradley Buchanan and fiancé Hollie Grindstaff of Erwin, TN. He is also survived by three brothers, Randle Buchanan and Larry Buchanan both of Spruce Pine and Eddie Buchanan of Burnsville, two sisters, Ilene Jenkins of Spruce Pine and Betty Mathews of Henderson, NC and sixteen grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Buchanan will be conducted at 12:00 pm Thursday June 25, 2009 in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Grindstaff and Shane Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
