"John E Root, 70, of 26 S. Maple street, died at his home, Saturday at 7:50 p.m.
The husband of Ida Demmy Root, he was born in Schoeneck a son of the late Jacob and Rebecca Edwards Root. He resided in Ephrata for the past 33 years. For the past 13 years he had been employed as a carpenter and caretaker at the Mountain Springs Hotel. He was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Nazarene.
Besides his wife he is survived by these children: Dorothy, wife of William Hutchinson, Reinholds R1; Margaret, wife of Frank Jones, Mountville; Grace, wife of Cloyd Ruhl, Lititz Rs; John Root, Manheim; Caroline, wife of Ralph R Ruth, Ephrata; M/Sgt Carl G Root, Olmstead Air Force Base Middletown; Walter E Root, Holtwood R2.
Fifteen Grandchildren, two great granchildren, a stepson, Elton Stoneback, LaJolla, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Caroline Eberly, Schoeneck, also survive.
Funeral took place yesterday for Harold E Miley Funeral Home, the Rev Harrold A Parry officiating. Burial was in Lincoln cemetery."
