Ethel Y. Clemmer, 89, of Souderton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at her residence in Souderton.

She was the loving wife of the late James D. Clemmer for 65 years. Ethel was born in Silverdale, Pa, to the late William L. and Ida (Yoder) Alderfer. She enjoyed growing up and working on her parent’s farm outside of Souderton.

She also worked as a sorter at the Sun-lite Shop and as a cafeteria worker for the Souderton School District. In 1948, she was married and together with her husband Jim raised five children. She loved being a homemaker and especially baking, gardening and opening her home to family and friends for warm hospitality and delicious meals.

Ethel was an active member of the Souderton Mennonite Church where she served for more than 40 years on the Kitchen Committee and also taught Vacation Bible School and was an active participant in Sunday school classes. She was devoted to showing God’s love to others in practical ways. Ethel was a caring, compassionate follower of Jesus.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Clemmer of Souderton; her four sons, Kenneth Clemmer and wife, Gayle of Harleysville, Gerald Clemmer and wife, Lydia of Telford, Michael Clemmer and wife, April of Harleysville, Andrew Clemmer and wife, Pamela of Hagerstown, MD; 12 grandchildren - Nate, Leah, Matt, Elisabeth, Mary, Sarah, Rachael, Aaron, Hannah, Jake, Jeremiah, & Joshua; 12 great-grandchildren - Adelyn, Aubrey, Alyssa, Madison, Mason, Harper, Simon, Louie, Caleb, Meredith, Henry, & Rose; her brother, Claude Alderfer and wife Claire of Hatfield and a sister-in-law, Susan Clemmer Steiner and husband, Sam of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Miriam Gahman.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 24 at the Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 West Summit Street, Souderton, PA from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and on Sunday, February 25 in the Fellowship Hall at the Souderton Mennonite Church, 105 W. Chestnut Street, Souderton, PA from 1PM – 3PM.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday at 3PM at Souderton Mennonite Church in the sanctuary.
