Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John J. and Dorothy Lane Golden. Gary was a graduate of Archbald High School and attended Lock Haven University and Penn State University. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Gary then worked for and retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
He was a lifetime member of the Eynon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7963 and the Archbald American Legion Post 624. Gary enjoyed reading and was a handgun hobbyist. One of Gary's favorite pastimes was to drive around Archbald. He was a loving son, brother and uncle who enjoyed spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the Geisinger CMC 8th floor step down unit, especially Gina, Tara and Mary Ann, for their compassionate care during a difficult time.
Gary is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Richards, Dickson City; Suzanne and husband, Peter Verkitus, Archbald; a sister-in-law, Frances Golden, Malverne; five nieces and nephews, Melissa Golden, John T. and wife, Chrissy; Justyn Richards, Paul and Christopher and wife, Jacqui Verkitus; great nieces and nephews, Gavin and Mackenzie Richards, Kian Golden and Wyatt Verkitus.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Gregory Golden; a brother-in-law, John Richards; and a niece, Kara Golden.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main St., Archbald, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Parish, St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 429 Church St., Archbald. Military honors will follow and then interment in St. Thomas Cemetery.
