Charles Edward “Punkin” Dudley, 74, of Temple died Saturday

Services for Charles Edward “Punkin” Dudley, 74, of Temple will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Branford/Dawson Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Roscoe C. Harrison Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Temple Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mr. Dudley died Saturday, Feb. 3, at a Temple hospital.

He was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Temple to Elean Harris and Arthur Charles Dudley of Augusta, Ga. He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1962. He attended Temple Junior College where he was co-captain of the basketball team and he was on the track and field team. He later attended Mexico State University and Paul Quinn College where he received a bachelor’s degree. Later he attended Prairie View A&M College where he received his master’s degree. He served in the U.S. Navy 1966-70 and was stationed in Virginia Beach, Va. He returned to Temple in 1970. He retired in 2003 as a locomotive engineer with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway after 33 years. He married Bettie Lou White on Dec. 29, 1976, in Temple.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Byron K. Dudley of Atlanta, Ga., and Cedric Charles Dudley, both of Temple; two daughters, Charlonda Pittman of Temple and Dibbi Davis of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Harriett Garnet of Temple; two stepbrothers, Arthur Brown of Dallas and Johnny Brown of Charleston, S.C.; eight stepsisters, Gwendolyn Butler of Augusta, Ga., Yvonne Wright of Vallejo, Calif., Sheila St. Field of Pensacola, Fla., Maryanne Williams of Lakeland, Fla., Connie Sue Gilmore of Temple, Vivian Hinant of Miami, Fla., Gertrude Roby of Kansas City, Kan., and Barbara Spann of Kansas City, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Friday at Branford/Dawson Funeral Home in Temple.
