Victor 'Vic' Nelson, a longtime business owner in Albert Lea, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Vic was born October 20, 1939, in Owatonna, the son of Victor and Alvina (Jacobson) Nelson.

Vic attended school in Owatonna. After high school Vic enlisted into the United States Navy, serving his country from 1956 to 1960.

He was united in marriage to Mary Hedum on September 10, 1973, in South Dakota. Vic was the owner and operator of Elbow Room in Albert Lea for 46 years. Elbow Room was voted the best hamburger in Albert Lea for the past 10 years. Vic was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, Moose Lodge and Eagles, as well as the secretary of the Elks Club for over 30 years.

Vic is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary; sons Mark (Mary) Nelson of Las Vegas and Michael (Jessica) Hedum of Surprise, Arizona; daughters Vicky (Charlie) Austin of Le Center, Sheila (Jim) Hansen of Glenville, Cheryl (Dave) McDonnell of Chaska and Mary Beth (Bert) Burlingame of Apple Valley; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters Ann (Eugene) Dienst of Colorado, Marie (Gary) Kedziora of Eagan and Carol Lynn (Richard) Watts of Owatonna.

Vic is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bridget Burlingame; parents; in-laws Otis and Olive Johnson; brothers-in-law Roland, Richard and Dale Johnson and Orville Courrier; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Joy.
