After graduating from Ames High School in 1959, Robert joined the Plumber and Steamfitters Local 33 where he met and befriended so many wonderful people throughout his career. He remained a proud member until the time of his death. On April 8, 1972, Robert married Joreen Towle and they made their life in Zearing, Iowa with their five 'rugrats'--Carol, Robert, Sherry, Julie and Ann. Family was important to Robert, and his fondest memories were of those spent on the lake fishing, tubing and skiing with his kids and grandchildren.
Left behind to take their own fish off the hook is Joreen, his wife of 45 years, his daughters Carol (Bob), Sherry (Ben), Julie (Rod), Ann (Jim); his son Robert (Esie); 13 grandchildren, Robert (Sarah), Chris, Matt (Rachel), Jacob (Melissa), Michael, Janey, Morgan, Madison (Matt), Nathan, Haley, Dustin, Gabrielle, and Adam as well as two great grandchildren, Robert and Claude. Also left to cherish his memory is his best friend since elementary school, Mike (Marilyn) Phares. This friendship spanned over 70 years and the two collected a lifetime of shared experiences. Robert was always grateful for this friendship and it was one of the reasons his journey was remarkable.
Robert is preceded in death by this parents, two brothers (Roger and David) and Grandson (Curtis).
