Matthew C. Howe, 48, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12th, at 11:00 AM at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Matthew Charles Howe was born January 6, 1970, in Waukon, IA, the son of Wayne and Janice (Beisker) Howe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Matt attended St. Patrick's School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1988.
He also attended DMACC in Ankeny, IA, for diesel mechanic training.

On August 27, 1994, he married Rachelle Fossum at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon.

Matt owned and operated his own over the road trucking company for over 20 years. He also worked at Agri Star in Postville, IA, as a shop manager and most recently, for Featherlite Trailers in Cresco, IA, as a transportation specialist.

A member of Thunder Rode Therapeutic Riding, Matt enjoyed riding horses and going to Yellow River State Forest and other parks to ride. He enjoyed his new found love for horses and his cowboy hats, he referred to himself as “Cowboy Matt”. He was a former member of the Waukon Fire Department. Always looking for a good deal, Matt liked going to truck shows and truck pulls. He also liked teasing people, shopping, taking a short-cut and eating ice cream. He loved the Lil’ Indian basketball families. He enjoyed being the score keeper at the games.

Survivors include his wife Shelly Howe of Waukon; his children: Will and Grace Howe both of Waukon; his father and mother Wayne and Janice Howe of Waukon; his siblings: Angela (Ron) Cooper of Lansing, IA, Becky (Brad) Decker of Luana, IA, John Howe and Dan (Linsey) Howe, both of Waukon, Tom (Callie Mescher) Howe of Arvada, CO, and Zach (Katie Kotz) Howe of Dubuque, IA; grandmother Arlene Beisker of Waukon; father and mother-in-law Arlyn and Lois Fossum of Waterville, IA; 2 brothers-in-law: Brad (Lynn) Fossum of Lodi, WI, and Kevin (Julie) Fossum of Waterville; sister-in-law Marcia (Perry) Hesse of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Lorna Howe and John Beisker.

Casketbearers are John, Dan, Tom, and Zach Howe, Brad Decker, Ron Cooper, Brad and Kevin Fossum, and Perry Hesse.
