Sidney Monroe Altizer, 91, passed away at his home in Bristow on February 3, 2018.

He was born and raised in Riner to the late Alfred Monroe and Pearl Elizabeth Altizer.

He was also predeceased by his wife, Doris Simmons Altizer, of 54 years.

He graduated salutatorian from Auburn High School, enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II serving honorably for two years aboard the USS Clay then worked 38 years for the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was a member of the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren for over 50 years.

He is survived by his two children, Jay (Shirley) Altizer and Wendy Altizer (Kenneth) Schulz; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, February 9, 2018 at Horne Funeral Home.

A celebration of his life will be held at Christiansburg Church of the Brethren at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018 with Pastor Jerry Hylton officiating.

Interment will immediately follow the service at Sunset Cemetery.
