"I, Philip S. Galpin of the City of New Haven & State of Connecticut, do make & ordain this to be my last Will & Testament —
"First, I give & bequeath to my adopted Son, Philip G Galpin, my Gold Watch, also the Portrait of my first wife, which is hanging in the back Parlor of my House; & I give & bequeath all my printed Books to my wife, Sarah S. Galpin & my said adopted Son, to be equally divided between themselves.
"Secondly, I give devise & bequeath to my beloved wife, Sarah S. Galpin, all the rest & residue of my estate of every description, to her sole use & benefit, with full authority to dispose of the same or any part thereof, & the same to re-invest at her discretion ; with the request that within a reasonable time after my death, she shall by her Will, duly executed, give, devise & bequeath, to my said adopted Son, Philip G Galpin & his heirs, whatever shall remain in her possession at the time of her death, of my said Estate, or the avails of any portion which she may in the mean time have sold or otherwise disposed of —
"Thirdly, If my said wife should die before me, or if she & I should both die so near the same time that it would be uncertain whether the property given to her in this Will, vested in her or not, or, is she should die after me, without leaving a will, then in either of those cases, I give, devise & bequeath to my said adopted Son, Philip G. Galpin all the estate both real & personal, or the avails thereof which I may die possessed.
