Mattie Gillispie Bradford was born September 22, 1912 in Pine Forest, Hopkins County, TX. The youngest of 11 children born to James Cope and Nannie Gillispie Culpepper Bradford. Mattie married Morris 'Jack' Young on July 1, 1933 in Pickton, TX. To this union, 4 sons were born, Robert Rex, Dewey Dwayne, James Edward, and Carey Lynn. Mattie had a deep abiding love of the Lord, and was active in the children's ministry of Mayfair Church of Christ. Mattie taught the nursery class for 44 years, retiring when she was 89 years old. When she celebrated her 100th birthday, Mayfair dedicated Mattie Young's Children's Area in honor of her dedicated service to the little children of her church. Surviving are her four sons and their wives, Robert Rex (Martha), Dewey Dwayne (Leona), James Edward (Qihua), and Carey Lynn (Sandra).
Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1974, and one grandson in 2016. Services to celebrate Mattie’s life will be held 2:00 pm Friday, February 9, 2018 at Mayfair Church of Christ (2340 NW 50th St.) with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Oklahoma City.
