She was born May 22, 1928, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Norris D. and Georgia Elouise Morss Meachum. She married James Herman Adwell on June 1, 1947, in Berwick. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Donald Meachum, and one grandson, Jasen Adwell.
Donnalee is survived by one daughter, Myra Kay (and Herb) Lloyd of Bremen, Alabama; one son, Gale (and Joyce) Adwell of Abingdon, Illinois; 5 granddaughters, 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandsons.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1946. She attended Western Illinois University and obtained her Teacher Certificate in 1947. She taught in a one-room school house in Delong, Illinois for grades 1 thru 8 for 1 year. She later worked at the Abingdon Blue Bell Factory. She also worked for the Roseville, Illinois school district serving food at the Berwick Grade School from 1954 to 1964. She then worked as a florist at Rosy's Flower Shop in Abingdon until 1971. After moving to Stevenson, Alabama, she worked at the Lee Blue Jean Factory until her retirement. She was a member of the Berwick Baptist Church. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, reading, and researching her family genealogy.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the Berwick Cemetery in Berwick, Illinois. Rev. Tom Smith will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, 206 N. Washington St., Abingdon, IL 61410.
