Catherine “Squeege” Witzel Dunn, age 77, Lawton, died Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Lawton after a courageous battle with dementia. She was born March 14, 1940 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Jake and Clara Mae (Smith) Witzel.

She moved to Lawton in 1943 when her father purchased the Ford dealership. She was a graduate of the Lawton High School Class of 1958.

Catherine was primarily a homemaker and was grateful to have been able to stay home to raise her children. She had worked as a dental assistant for dentists in Shawnee, Edmond and Lawton. She was working for Dr. Norman O’Leary when she met Tom Dunn. They were married on December 21, 1979 in Lawton. The couple spent many happy years living in the Wichita Mountain Estates. During this time she worked as a bookkeeper for Lawton Novelty and Tom Dunn Automotive. She would later work as an associate with Dody’s Hallmark.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, accepting Christ as a child, and was baptized in the chapel of First Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and served in Sunday school and the children’s ministry. Catherine enjoyed baking and was a terrific grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura J. and Dr. Daryl Birdwell and Judy and Michael Landrum, all of Lawton; three grandsons and their spouses, Brant and Kacie Purdum, Elgin, Garrett and Jessica Purdum, Yukon and Alston and Kerri Hicks, Lawton; five great grandchildren, Preslie, Gage, Lucas, Drew and Paisley and a soon to be born great grandchild; two sisters, Marlene McPherson and husband Ralph, Iowa Park, Texas and Pat Miller, Lawton.

Her parents, her son, Jay Lewis, her sister and brother-in-law, Dody and Charles Horton, and her brother-in-law, George Miller, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 in First Baptist Church with Dr. Patrick Latham, Pastor, and Rev. Tony Christie, Associate Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
