PONTOTOC –
John William Doster, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Sunshine Personal Care Home in Pontotoc. He was born July 7, 1934, in the Longview Community of Pontotoc County to Annie Lou and John Doster. He was reared by his aunt and uncle, Mary Pritchard Burks and Willie Burks of Longview. He was a Baptist, joining Longview Church at an early age. During his active years he was employed by Pontotoc City School Systems as a bus driver, Tupelo Manufacturing, Basic Woods, A&W Wood Products, Pontotoc Senior Citizens Nutrition Site, meal delivery, and bus driver for senior activity programs. He married Effie Blount Montgomery in September 1969; they shared 22 years of marriage, until her death in February, 1991.

Survivors include two sisters Mary Lou Holden (Shannon) of Abbeville, and Louise Walls of West Point; one brother, Quinn Jolly of Mathiston; his stepdaughter Peggy Montgomery Bennett (James) of Pontotoc, two step-grandsons, Dean Mitchell of New Albany, and Don Bennett of Cordova, Tenn.; a step-granddaughter, D’Anne Stafford of Pontotoc; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, stepbrother Tommy Jolly and brother-in-law Pete Walls.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today and continue Tuesday from 9 to 11 am. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Baldwin-Nowell Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Dempsey Rowland officiating. Burial will be in Jernigan Cemetery, Hwy 341, Pontotoc.

Pallbearers will be Dean Mitchell, Don Bennett, Jeff Stafford, Nolan Stafford, Blake Shettles, Waylon Busby and Shannon Holden. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Johnson, Jim Bennett and William Matthews.
