Obituary for Evelyn Ready Collier Gilbert
Evelyn Ready Collier Gilbert of Blakely, GA died peacefully at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Emergency Room on Tuesday night, June 20, 2017. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, June 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Alderman and Mike Collier officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. up until time for the memorial service.

She was born during the years foreshadowing the Great Depression, January 24, 1926, the sixth of nine children in Houston County, Alabama to parents Hozey Riley "HR" and Belle Ridley Ready. At the age of ten, she moved with her family to the Colomokee Community where she attended public school, spent her childhood and met her future husband. She and Byron Herman Collier were married in Albany, Georgia on September 20, 1945, upon his return from distinguished combat service with the United States Army Air Corps in World War II.

Mrs. Gilbert was a retired textile worker from the Brew Schneider Company in Blakely. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of Colomokee Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who cherished the simple things in life and the value of home and family. She enjoyed gardening, reading and listening to the music of the hammered dulcimer.

Surviving Mrs. Gilbert are daughters, Judy Anne Collier of Cary, NC and Jane Collier Knighton of Atlanta, and a son, Michael Ready "Mike" Collier and his wife, Deborah King "Debbie" Collier of Blakely. Also surviving are stepsons, Warren Hubert Gilbert, Jr. and his wife, Lynda of Conyers, GA and Robert Grady "Bobby" Gilbert and his wife, Donna Gleaton Gilbert of Blakely. Her brother, Melvin Hollis "Mel" Ready of Tarpon Springs, FL also survives. Her sister-in-law, Henrietta Wiley Ready, widow of Bobby Ready also survives. Left to cherish the memory of their beloved "Ebie" are 13 grandchildren, all-inclusive and 24 great grandchildren, all-inclusive.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by husbands, Byron Herman Collier in 1965 and Warren Hubert Gilbert, Sr. in 1989. Stepdaughter Vivian Hazel Gilbert Hallman and her son, Stanley Eric Hallman also predeceased her. Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by three sisters; Mittie R. " Mett" Anglin of Blakely, Alma R. McCraney of Damascus, Thelma R. McDonald of Blakely, and by four brothers; Bobby Ready of Blakely, Odell Ready of Dothan, AL, and Curtis Ready of Ashford, AL and Collis Ready of Albany and Cartersville, GA.

Instead of flowers the family strongly suggests that memorial contributions be made to Friends of Kolomoki, Kolomoki Mounds State Park, 205 Indian Mounds, Blakely, GA 39823
